Turning Everyday Spending into KiwiSaver Growth
Published 28 July 2026
The latest Melville Jessup Weaver (MJW) Investment Survey (June 2026) has recognised the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme as one of New Zealand's top-performing KiwiSaver providers, ranking our Growth and Balanced Funds first in their respective categories over the past year to 30 June 2026, while maintaining strong long-term performance.
Building on that recognition, four MAS KiwiSaver Scheme funds featured among the survey’s top performers. The Growth and Balanced Funds each ranked number one in their respective categories over the past year to 30 June 2026, delivering returns of 19.0% and 14.9% respectively. Both funds also placed second over the 10-year period to 30 June 2026, reflecting their consistent long-term performance.
The Moderate Fund ranked second over both the one- and 10-year periods, returning 10.7% over the past year, and 5.9% per annum over the decade, both to 30 June 2026. The Conservative Fund ranked fourth over one year and sixth over 10 years, with returns of 6.9% and 4.1% per annum respectively to 30 June 2026.
Helen McDowall, Chief Investments Product Officer at MAS, said the results reflect the value of a disciplined investment approach focused on delivering strong outcomes for Members over the long term.
"It's pleasing to see our Growth and Balanced Funds ranked number one over the past year, while also continuing to perform strongly over longer timeframes. Consistent long-term performance is what helps Members build confidence that their retirement savings are working hard for them."
McDowall said the results reinforce the importance of looking beyond short-term market movements when assessing KiwiSaver Scheme performance.
"Markets will always experience periods of volatility, but successful investing is about maintaining a long-term perspective. Our investment approach is designed to help Members navigate changing market conditions while remaining focused on achieving their financial goals."
She said MAS continues to actively manage its portfolios, drawing on global investment expertise while keeping Members' long-term interests at the centre of every investment decision.
"Our focus is on delivering sustainable, risk-adjusted returns rather than chasing short-term trends. These results demonstrate the strength of that approach, and the value active management can deliver over time."
The latest MJW survey assessed selected funds from the 17 largest KiwiSaver schemes in New Zealand, representing approximately 94% of total KiwiSaver assets under management as at 31 March 2025.
