Entries are now open for the 2023 Sustainable Business Awards, Aotearoa New Zealand’s biggest sustainability awards. For the fourth year running, MAS is sponsoring the Social Impactor category, which is presented to an organisation that is consistently improving people’s lives through its day-to-day business practices.

The Sustainable Business Awards are run by the Sustainable Business Network (SBN), New Zealand's largest and longest-standing sustainable business organisation. Now in their 21st year, the awards celebrate companies, individuals, and partnerships dedicated to achieving greater sustainability.

Last year’s Social Impactor Award winner was Karma Drinks, a Kiwi company with commitment to doing environmental and social good. One percent of revenue from drink sales goes to the Karma Foundation, directly supporting 3,000 people in the communities in Sierra Leone, who grow Karma Drinks’ ingredients.

MAS Chief Life Insurance Officer Rachael Macdonald says supporting the awards aligns with MAS’ purpose for inspiring a healthier Aotearoa.

“Businesses have a huge part to play in achieving a more sustainable future thanks to the resources they can bring to bear on the problem – their people, their investments, their procurement and supply chains, their practices.

“As a mutual, we know what can be achieved when we work for the good of our communities, and we want to support like-minded businesses who are making a similar impact in their own industries.”

SBN Chief Executive Rachel Brown says the awards play a hugely valuable role in progressing sustainable business nationally by celebrating the achievements of those really transforming the way business is done.

“It’s been another year of disruptions. Covid continues to impact our lives and now floods have added to the storm. Disruptions create innovation. These individuals and organisations must be held up and celebrated to encourage more to do the same.”

Sustainable Business Awards entries are open now until 18 July. Entry is free and open to anyone in Aotearoa New Zealand.
