Please note, if we determine that the requested change to your sum insured may be too high or too low we may call you for more information.

When you make a claim under your Motor Vehicle Policy, you will pay a compulsory excess towards the cost of your repairs.

In addition to this compulsory excess, you can choose to add a voluntary excess to your policy. If you have chosen this option and you make a claim under your policy, you will pay the compulsory excess and your voluntary excess, and we will pay the balance of the claim.

If you add a voluntary excess to your policy it may reduce the cost of your annual premium.

Please note that changing your cover type may alter the premium and excess on your policy.

Standard excesses on our Motor Vehicle Policies are as follows:

The standard excess for all claims on vehicles under $50,000 is $500. For vehicles over $50,000 the excess is $600, except on vehicles over $100,000 where excess is dependant on vehicle make and model.

An additional excess applies to:

Drivers under the age of 21 ($500 for vehicles under $50,000, $750 for vehicles over $50,000), Drivers between the ages of 21 and 25 ($250 for vehicles under $50,000, $500 for vehicles over $50,000), Drivers with a Learners or Restricted Licence ($150 for vehicles under $50,000, $250 for vehicles over $50,000), and Unauthorised Drivers ($1,750 for vehicles under $50,000, $2,000 for vehicles over $50,000).

The unauthorised drivers excess applies to all drivers not named on the schedule if you have selected the ‘Named Drivers Only’ authorised drivers option, or to all under 25 year old drivers if you have selected the ‘Over 25 Year Olds Only’ authorised drivers option.

Please note, advising MAS of a new alarm or immobiliser will not affect your premium. However, it is necessary for us to collect this information to keep your policy up to date.
