We know art is important to our Members. Some of our Members create art full-time, whilst others fit it around busy careers in clinics and classrooms. All of them have a story to tell.
In the lead up to Art in the Park, New Zealand’s premier art show, we’re celebrating some of our MAS Members who’ll be exhibiting. Each has a different art style, but all of them show what’s possible when you make space for creativity.
MAS Members exhibiting
Sam Gilmour
Sam is an oil painter and art teacher at Auckland’s Aorere College. Her paintings bring childhood daydreams to life in vivid colour, from glistening piles of pipi shells and waves to a dream house nestled in native bush. Sam believes in embracing the messiness of the creative process and nurturing the next generation. Learn more about Sam in this video or read more in this article.
Reuben Lauridsen
Working primarily with pen and ink, Reuben creates highly technical and expressive artworks that weave intricate patterns and geometry into dynamic compositions. His journey into art began while he was studying architecture at university, when he had the chance to experiment with an industrial robot. He wants to challenge what can be called art. See more of Reuben’s work on his Instagram or watch this video to learn more.
Brad Novak
Brad is a doctor by profession and artist by passion. He started creating art at 27 without having been to art school and today he’s known for his urban pop art. He believes you don’t have to be pigeonholed by your job, you can be more than one thing and that it’s never too late to start. Check out Brad’s website to see more of his work or watch this video to learn more.
Logan Bow
Logan is a multidisciplinary artist and aspiring architect. His work bridges visual art, design and spatial exploration. Think hand-picked New Zealand shells in his Corolla series and acrylic origami in his Acrylic Bloom series. His work invites viewers into a world where architectural thinking and artistic play converge. See Logan’s website for more information.
Linda McFetridge
Linda’s art explores light, reflection and the quiet strength found in natural landscapes. Her paintings of rivers, coastlines and lighthouses sit at the intersection of memory and stillness. With a background in theatre and movement direction, she brings rhythm and presence to her practice. Check out Linda’s work on her website.
Jane Blackmore
For more than 30 years, Jane has drawn inspiration from the natural world. Think joyful florals bursting from dark backgrounds and New Zealand landscapes. At the heart of her work is the simple act of experiencing the moment. Jane loves the way oil paint moves and glows, she hopes each piece becomes a meaningful part of people’s lives. See more of Jane’s work on her website.
