Uni’s out, scream and shout! Now that exams are over, it’s time to make the most of a (hopefully) gloriously sunny summer. And if you’re a bit bummed you won’t be holidaying in Europe, or getting wild under the full moon in Thailand, remember – NZ isn’t all that bad. In fact, there’s stacks of great spots you might not have discovered. So from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South, here’s your holiday abroad – at home.
Who doesn’t love the Bay of Islands? It may not be Fiji, but it’s probably the next best thing. Urupukapuka Island is the biggest of the lot, boasting loads of beautiful beaches, hundreds of friendly locals (sheep) and even a bar.
Book your spot at the campground, catch the ferry from Paihia and explore a different part of the island day after day, knowing a tasty bite awaits at Otehei Bay.
Okay, so RnV is nothing new. You’ve probably thought about heading there for New Year’s Eve already. But whether you’re getting amongst the vines, or catching some rays at the beach, there’s a couple of must-dos to tick off while you’re in Gisborne.
Hit up Rere Rockslide for some slippery, free fun. Explore Tolaga Bay and jump off the longest wharf in New Zealand. Then wind down with a cold one at Sunshine Brewing.
Sadly, Paris is out of the question. But if you’re after a slice of art, scenery and culture, get your sophisticated-self to Napier. From galleries and museums, to wineries and shops – there’s hours of entertainment for all Parisian-chic wannabes.
Make your ‘gram pop with the Sea Walls street art project, find your artistic fix at a huge range of galleries and events, or class it up over a glass of wine at Craggy Range.
Pack your appetite and maybe those pants with the elastic waistband – the South Island has the works. Between Marlborough to the North and Kaikoura to the East, stacks of scrumptious stops await on your dream Southland roadie.
Cycle the Golden Mile and taste top quality wine along the way. Tuck into Kaikoura crayfish by the sea. Or chow down on the best Salmon NZ has to offer, in Twizel.
Queenstown may be well-known as a winter hit. But it also absolutely goes off in the summer months too. Great bars, delectable food, not to mention RnV’s superior, Rhythm and Alps. There’s something for everyone and thrills-a-plenty.
Zip through the forest on the world’s steepest zipline, get wet and wild rafting down Skippers Canyon or take the plunge from the bridge where bungy jumping began.
Don’t let border restrictions hold you back this summer. Whatever you’re into, there’s a something for everyone. So slip, slop, slap and wrap then get out there to make the most of your break while the sun’s shining. New Zealand’s your oyster.
Once developed, habits take time to break. In fact, breaking a habit is often more complicated than creating one. We've provided some effective strategies for overcoming bad habits.
Matariki is a public holiday in Aotearoa for the first time ever in 2022. Sometimes called the Māori New Year, Matariki is a time of transition and remembrance. Find out about this midwinter celebration and how to mark it with your whānau and friends.
Taha wairua is who and what you are, where you have come from and where you are going. Your spiritual essence if your life force – your mauri.
