The investment funds in the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme, MAS Retirement Savings Scheme and MAS Investment Funds (the 'Schemes') is actively managed. This means a team of professionals make investment decisions that seek to outperform the market and deliver higher returns for you.
We seek specialist investment managers
The Funds within the Schemes typically invest in several different asset classes, including Australasian equities and New Zealand fixed interest. Investment managers are often experts in some asset classes but not others. Therefore, we seek out specialist investment managers in each asset class.
The Funds within the Schemes are invested with some of the world’s largest managers such as BlackRock for international equities and PIMCO for international fixed interest. We also use specialist investment managers JBWere (NZ) Pty Ltd (JBWere) for Australasian equities, and Bancorp Treasury Services Limited (Bancorp) for New Zealand fixed interest and cash.
Our approach to responsible investing
We help you grow your money responsibly by investing in companies with green revenues and will not invest in companies with principal business activities in fossil fuels, weapons, and tobacco. We complement this by integrating environmental, social and governance considerations, including climate factors into our investment decisions.
As an active steward of your money, we appoint an agent to engage with the companies the funds invest in, to advocate for human rights, labour rights, anti-corruption, and the environment. We endeavour to vote on all shareholdings via our proxy voting agent. Our ambition is to use shareholder voting rights to influence companies to conduct their business in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
