Actively managed for healthier returns
The performance of your KiwiSaver scheme fund over the long-term makes a big difference to your retirement savings.
The investment funds in the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme are actively managed. This means a team of professionals make investment decisions that seek to outperform the market and deliver higher returns for you. This is different from passively managed funds which simply track the returns of a particular market index as closely as possible.
We seek specialist investment managers
KiwiSaver scheme funds typically invest in several different asset classes, including shares, property, and fixed interest. Investment managers are often experts in some asset classes but not others.
Therefore, we seek out specialist investment managers in each asset class. The investment funds of the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme are invested with some of the world’s largest managers such as BlackRock for international equities and PIMCO for international fixed interest. We also use specialist investment managers JBWere (NZ) Pty Ltd for Australasian equities, and Bancorp Treasury Services for New Zealand fixed interest and cash.
Our approach to responsible investing
With MAS, your money is invested to help you achieve healthier returns and a healthier planet.
We do this by targeting companies with superior environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and restricting your exposure to fossil fuels, weapons, and tobacco.
As an active steward of your money, we engage with the companies you own to campaign for human rights, labour rights, anti-corruption, and the environment. We also represent you at company meetings and use your shareholder voting rights to advocate for people, planet, and profit.
